Finally, after what felt like an eternity, my Skutt Firebox kiln has arrived! It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster to get here—I waited six long months for this kiln, and just two weeks ago, they sent me the wrong one. I was so disappointed, but after a bit of back and forth, the right kiln is now sitting in my studio, waiting to be fired up.
I chose the Firebox because it’s perfect for my space: compact, easy to move around, and simple enough for a beginner. I don’t have a huge studio, so I needed something small enough to fit comfortably in the spce without compromising on quality. The Firebox ticked all the boxes: reliable, manageable, and highly recommended by fellow pottery enthusiasts.
I haven't fired it up yet—tomorrow's the big day. I'm a bit nervous, to be honest. There's something about that first firing that feels like a rite of passage. Will everything go smoothly? Will I open the lid to a batch of perfect, shiny pieces or a tragic mess? I’ve been obsessively reading the manual, watching YouTube tutorials, and double-checking my bisque pieces to make sure everything's set.
Getting to this point wasn’t easy, but I know it’s going to be worth it. I can't wait to finally glaze, fire, and see how my creations come to life. It’s the start of a new chapter in my ceramics journey, and I’m excited to take it one firing at a time!
